Rain drops from way to way
And trickles down to the marshy ground
That is the basis of all life
Wet and now hoary in the early winter,
Which gives hope
That life will thaw and blossom
Again and again in the calendar
Of man-made choosing,
Because time like the rain
Although seemingly guaranteed
Have an ending so personal
That they become concepts not
Immemorial, but tested
For from the dampened ground
We grow to be more,
But from it we grow to be less
And mean more
From ashes to ashes
And Earth to Earth
We can, and are washed away
Like the rain that pours
From way to way
