Is Your Life Worth Living?

Writer: Marwan Mohammed

Ask yourself the following question as you’re reading this article: is your life worth living? No, ask yourself this: if you had the choice on your death bed to relive your life again with the same details, would you relive it?

Most of us live our lives without thinking too much about what we did and what we’re going to do, which isn’t a bad thing most of the time, but take a break for a moment and over think the question. I surely can’t tell you if your life is worth living, damn, I don’t know if mine is! What I know is that I’m trying to live my life to the fullest without missing on anything. You see, we only have one life, no do-overs, no second chances- it’s a one-shot that you either miss or hit, and I’m not planning on wasting my shot. Most of us are competing to get the grades, get the job, buy the house, marry the person and make the kids, and we forget to live in the process. Our life becomes dull and colourless, missing the essence of life itself, missing the moments that makes life worth living, the moments which remind us that we’re humans.

Deciding to relive your life won’t be easy

Deciding to relive your life won’t be easy, most of the people want to go back and change things, and to live in the moment some more. You will have to look back into every moment you lived, did you do the right thing or not? Did you make the right decision or not? Did you have enough fun out of life that if you were faced with this choice choosing to live your life again won’t be boring? Only you can answer these. So, you should actually start thinking about your past years and your upcoming ones before it gets too late and you’re 70 years old, surrounded by your family, thinking you did well in life, but you actually never experienced life to the fullest.

Comfort is discomfort, as odd as it may seem, but it’s the truth. Being out of your comfort zone will push you to try things you’ve never tried before, it will push you to do things you’ve never done before, and it will push you to live in a way you’ve never thought of living in before. Where is the fun in thinking twice before every step? I’m not saying go and live on the edge (although it won’t hurt to do so every once and a while), life is a balance between having fun and pursuing success.

The answer is that all lives are worth living; life is an opportunity to do whatever the fuck you want, to screw up, to learn and to try, no one can tell you what to do with it. You can try to be the most successful person in the world, losing yourself in the process, or you can just enjoy life and have fun, so I would rather have fun. You are stuck here for a long time, anyway, so why not enjoy it while you’re here? So, my advice to you is to stop trying to be the best at everything you do because you won’t be, it’s impossible. Take a good look at your life, is it going the way you want it to go? Are you living in the moment enough and living your life to the fullest? If not, what are you going to do about it?
